Dean
Dr. Greg Chadwick has served as dean of the School of Dental Medicine since 2012. Formerly, he served as associate vice chancellor for oral health at ECU where he led the effort to establish the dental school. He was awarded the 2017 Governor James E. Holshouser Jr. Award for Excellence in Public Service by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors for exemplifying public service toward improving the quality of life for all North Carolinians.
He has also received the North Carolina Dental Society Distinguished Service Scroll, the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) Paragon Award, the International College of Dentists Outstanding Dental Leader Award and other awards. He is a former president of numerous dental organizations including the American Dental Association and the North Carolina Dental Society.
A native of North Carolina, Chadwick earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating from the UNC School of Dentistry, he practiced general dentistry in Community Health Centers in Prospect Hill and Moncure, North Carolina, before entering a residency in endodontics. He earned a master of science degree in endodontics from the UNC School of Dentistry and subsequently practiced endodontics in his hometown of Charlotte, N.C., for almost thirty years.
Vice Dean
Dr. Margaret (Maggie) Wilson joined the ECU School of Dental Medicine’s faculty as a clinical professor in 2009. She served as associate dean for student affairs from 2009 to 2019, leading efforts to recruit, admit and graduate outstanding dentists and coordinate the dental students’ ethics and professionalism curriculum. Additionally, she served as interim associate dean for extramural clinical practices from 2017 to 2018. She became the school’s first vice dean in 2014. In this capacity, she supports the dean in ensuring the achievement of the school’s strategic objectives.
Before coming to ECU, Dr. Wilson was a faculty member and administrator at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She served in various capacities, including full-time clinical general practice manager, associate dean for student affairs and associate dean for professional programs. She earned a DDS degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completed a general practice residency (GPR) at the University of Maryland Hospital.
Besides earning a DDS, Dr. Wilson holds a master of business administration (MBA) from the University of Maryland at College Park and an undergraduate degree from Lipscomb University. She was in private dental practice and also worked in college health before entering full-time academia in 1990.
