Unique Fourth-Year Experience

A unique component of the DMD program is the fourth-year experience at community service learning centers (CSLCs) in the underserved locations of Ahoskie, Brunswick County, Davidson County, Elizabeth City, Lillington, Robeson County, Spruce Pine, and Sylva, North Carolina. Students provide patient care for 27 weeks at CSLCs alongside faculty, residents, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and business staff.

Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD)

The East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine offers a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency that integrates didactic education and clinical experience at a level beyond that of the pre-doctoral educational program. The Program is designed to broaden the resident’s professional knowledge and clinical skills to the point that they can provide comprehensive oral healthcare for patients with complex dental needs independently and in a geographic location that may lack the direct support of other Dental Specialists.

Thank you for your interest in the East Carolina University AEGD Residency Program. Our program only accepts applicants who are graduates from CODA-accredited schools.

Optional 2nd Year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD-2)

The East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine offers a unique Optional 2nd Year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency that has been developed in conjunction with the East Carolina University’s College of Education.  The Optional 2nd Year AEGD program integrates the advanced professional knowledge and clinical skills of a 2nd Year AEGD Residency, with the core courses of the College of Education’s Graduate Certificate Program in Education in the Healthcare Professions, which have been specifically designed towards Dental Education.  As such our Optional 2nd Year AEGD is ideally suited for those who wish to gain the advanced professional knowledge and clinical skills of a 2-Year AEGD, and who may be considering a potential future career in Dental Education.

General Practice Residency (GPR)

The East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine offers a one-year General Practice Residency program for recent dental graduates to prepare for private practice or for further graduate study in a dental specialty area. The primary objective of the residency program is to provide optimal dental care to both medically compromised and healthy patients in a hospital environment.
