New Student Checklist

Welcome to the ECU School of Dental Medicine!

Now that you have been admitted to the ECU SoDM, there are numerous things you must do to prepare for dental school. Below is a checklist to help make sure that you are prepared for your arrival in August. Please review these items carefully and make sure that each one has been completed. Contact the Office of Student Affairs at 252-737-7005 if you have any questions.

Set Passphrase and Access ECU Student Email Account

New students will receive their Pirate ID account information in two separate mailings. Once students receive those mailings, they must follow the instructions on the Student Technology sheet to set their new passphrase and can access their ECU email Accounts.

* STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO CHECK THEIR ECU EMAIL ACCOUNT DAILY FOR IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS AND MESSAGES FROM THE UNIVERSITY AND THE SCHOOL OF DENTAL MEDICINE. *

Complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid)

Make sure to complete a FAFSA form as soon as possible, and include ECU as an official recipient of your SAR (Student Aid Report). This will determine your eligibility for loans and other financial aid programs. ECU’s FAFSA code is 002923. (Apply Here) STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE A FAFSA FORM IN ORDER TO RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID.

Submit Immunization Records to the School of Dental Medicine and Complete Online Report of Medical History

ALL STUDENTS (including ECU graduates) will need to complete the Report of Medical History and Immunization record form to provide information regarding your health history and to verify that your immunizations fully comply with N.C. Immunization law and the requirements established by the ECU School of Dental Medicine. Report of Medical History can be completed by logging in with your Pirate ID here: https://studenthealth.ecu.edu/submitting-records/.

The ECU School of Dental Medicine strongly encourages all students to be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19, in accordance with CDC guidelines, prior to entering our program. You may enter your COVID vaccine information in MyPirateChart with your other vaccinations. As of now, the vaccine is not required for admissions, and there is no requirement to complete exemption forms.
Immunization Requirements/Record

Submit Official Final Transcripts

ALL STUDENTS (including ECU graduates) should make sure the Office of Student Affairs receives your OFFICIAL FINAL UNDERGRADUATE (and GRADUATE if applicable) transcripts with degree verification, no later than JUNE 30th.

Select Financial Aid Refund Preference

The TouchNet web portal allows students to view bills, make payments, and create a refund profile. Students have the option for refunds to be direct deposited into a designated bank account of their choice; however, if direct deposit information is not provided, a paper refund check will be mailed to the address on file. In order to set up the direct deposit refund, please follow the steps below:

  1. Login to Pirate Port (https://pirateport.ecu.edu/connect)
  2. Under the TOOLS tab, click on the “Tuition Statements, 1098-T Statements, & Payments” link found under Cashier
  3. Select the eRefunds tab
  4. Click “Set up Account”
  5. Enter information and click “Continue”
    Note: Do not enter a debit card here; a routing and account number must be used
  6. Review account information and the ACH agreement
  7. Select “I agree” and click “Continue”
  8. You should now see your eRefunds account listed under “Direct Deposit Bank Account”
  9. Saved bank accounts can be reviewed, modified, and deleted by selecting “My Account” and “Payment Methods”

Enroll in or Waive out of Student Health Insurance

All East Carolina University students will be required to have health insurance. For more information about the ECU Health Insurance Requirement Click Here.

Pay Tuition

Students will receive a notification that their e-Bill is available to view through their OneStop Account. If you are using financial aid to pay for your tuition, your financial aid will pay your tuition prior to you receiving your refund. If you are self paying for your tuition, you will need to pay your tuition when you receive your e-Bill.

Order Scrubs

All ECU SoDM Students MUST purchase their scrubs through the ECU Health Science Store.
Scrubs must be ordered by June 15, 2024.

Order Apple Technology Bundle (after notification from the School of Dental Medicine)

Information regarding the technology bundle will be distributed via email by SoDM Informatics in June.

Update Current Address using Self-Service Banner

Once you are enrolled as a student at the ECU SoDM and have activated your Pirate ID, you are required to provide ECU with an accurate current mailing address. You can confirm and/or update your current address using Self-Service Banner by logging onto Pirate Port

Purchase Parking Permit
