The ECU School of Dental Medicine (SoDM) will be hosting it’s tenth annual Celebration of Research and Scholarship (CORAS) on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 8 am – 12:30pm. This will be a live (in-person) event at Ross Hall and a live-screening event with our Community Service Learning Centers (CSLCs).

Bruce A. Dye, DDS, MPH
Dr. Bruce Dye is the Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation Chair in Oral Health Equity – Professor and Chair of the Department of Community Dentistry and Population Health at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Dye graduated from the Ohio State University with a DDS degree, earned a master’s in public health from the University of Michigan, completed a USPHS Epidemiology Fellowship with training at Johns Hopkins University, and a Dental Public Health Residency at NIDCR. He began his career in the US Public Health Service working in Indian Health Service clinics and hospitals in South Dakota and Michigan as a clinical dentist and program director. Later, he worked at the National Center for Health Statistics (which is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) as the dental epidemiology officer for the National Health and Nutrition and Examination Survey (NHANES). More recently he was a Dental Epidemiologist and Director of the Health Informatics and Dental Public Health Fellowship at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), which was in partnership with the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
Dr. Dye is an active diplomate on the American Board of Dental Public Health. He has served on several inter-agency work groups, national committees and editorial Boards. Dr. Dye currently serves as the Associate Editor for the Journal of American Dental Association (JADA) responsible for submissions covering the area of epidemiology and public health. He has received awards for achievement and scientific excellence, including those from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the American Academy of Periodontology, and the American Association for Oral and Craniofacial Research. Dr. Dye has several years of experience providing dental care and related training in a variety of different health care settings. His research work has focused on the epidemiology of dental diseases and related conditions, research methodology, and public health informatics. He has worked with many investigators, trainees, and students on several projects, research studies and learning experiences covering a wide ranging scope of oral health-related topics across 5 continents. Dr. Dye has published over 100 scientific articles, editorials, and book chapters. Recently, he was the project co-Director and Scientific Editor for the new National Institutes of Health report – Oral health in America: Advances and Challenges – the follow-up report to the 2000 Surgeon General Report on Oral Health in America.
At the University of Colorado, Dr. Dye is leading the development and implementation of several new programmatic activities for the School of Dental Medicine within the Department of Community Dentistry and Population Health. These include expanding the special care dental clinic to include medically complex older adults; re-imagining global health activities and international service learning experiences for students; creating a pre-doctoral Rural Oral Health track and a post-doctoral fellowship program in Geriatric Dental Medicine; growing community-based dental education opportunities for students; and guiding new efforts in learning and research in the oral health space focusing on persons with disabilities. A common theme reflecting much of his work focuses on advancing dental access and improving oral health for underserved populations.
