Ryan Wilson receives TYLENOL® scholarship

The East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine is proud to announce that fourth-year dental student Ryan Wilson has won a $5,000 TYLENOL® Future Care Scholarship.

Wilson, a native of Rocky Mount, N.C., was among the 40 students of excellence in medical programs nationwide to win scholarships from TYLENOL® in 2015. Organizers praised Wilson and other winners because they “strike an admirable balance between academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement, and have dedicated their careers to caring for other people.”

As a dental student, Wilson has been a dedicated outreach volunteer in projects such as the North Carolina Missions of Mercy (NCMOM) free dental mobile clinics and the Baptist Men’s Dental Bus. As fourth-year students, Wilson and his classmates are gaining hands-on experience treating patients at Community Service Learning Centers in underserved areas across North Carolina.

“Wilson said, “Through organizing a dental bus and volunteering at the NCMOM dental clinics, I have seen the impact dentists make in rural populations. Dentists serve as leaders in promoting oral health education and its correlation to the overall health of the body. As a future dentist, I can use my career to change people’s lives for the better. Dentists serve as leaders not only in their office, but also in the community. I take great pride in knowing that I can soon use my education to benefit a community.”

For twenty-three years, the makers of TYLENOL® have awarded scholarships annually to well deserving students pursuing careers in healthcare. The company has awarded over eight million dollars to support the education of those dedicated to a lifetime of caring for others.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have completed at least one year of undergraduate or graduate course study at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational-technical school.
