Biographical Information
Dr. Randy Coffey joined the ECU School of Dental Medicine in July 2024, after he retired from the VCU General Practice Department in June 2024 from his service dating to his Military retirement in October 2016. Dr. Coffey has joined ECU SoDM as the Director of CSLC-Spruce Pine. He is a Past President, Board of Directors and Board Certified Diplomate of The American Board of General Dentistry (ABGD). He is a Master, Academy of General Dentistry (2009) and Fellow of The American College of Dentists (2011) and The International College of Dentists (2020). He is a Full Time Faculty, Associate Professor and a past General Practice Group Leader, Quality Assurance, Mock Board Leader and Laboratory Fixed Case Reviewer. Dr. Coffey has a strong history of service to the profession. His greatest accomplishment and passion is seeking to serve all patients, students, postgraduate students with excellence and the profession of dentistry in advanced education nationally as a past lecturer for Region 17: The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and an ongoing Board Examiner (ABGD). His research interests are dental biomaterials. He is a past Senior Dental Executive (District 7 USCG) and Senior Health Services Officer. He has faithfully dedicated seeking excellence in care for his patients in Comprehensive Dentistry nationally for over 34 years, including VCU Faculty Practice, retiring in December 2022. Dr. Coffey received many professional awards including USCG Meritorious Service Medals (3); President of Seminar of Restorative Dentistry presented him the Award for Excellence – First USCG Officer in its history at the Naval Dental Center – Naval Postgraduate Dental School (US Naval Academy 2004). The Assistant Surgeon General of United States Public Health Service presented him the 2013 USPHS Senior Clinician Award – In Recognition of Outstanding Career Achievements in Clinic Dentistry. He is the 2019 Recipient of Dr. Frank “Buddy” Boris Award (The Memorial Award) for Distinguished Service for his selfless commitment and dedication in service to The American Board of General Dentistry.
