Biographical Information
Dr. Roopsi Kaur’s professional journey spans continents and disciplines, reflecting dedication to dental education and inclusivity. Beginning her career in her native, India, she earned a dental degree and completed an internship in general dentistry equivalent to AEGD. Dr. Kaur attained a master’s degree and certificate in operative dentistry from the University of North Carolina’s Adams School of Dentistry, Chapel Hill. She joined ECU SoDM in 2012 in the Department of General Dentistry where she serves as Assistant Dean for Engagement and Clinical Associate Professor (Operative Dentistry) and imparts her knowledge to both predoctoral and postdoctoral students. Her duties include administration, research, and patient care, demonstrating a well-rounded commitment to her profession.
Dedicated to fostering engagement, diversity, equity, and inclusion in dental education, Dr. Kaur has chaired the Humanistic Environment Committee, served as Secretary of the Faculty Council, and currently co-chairs the SoDM Inclusion and Engagement Committee. She also participates in admissions committee, student progress committee and students and residents affairs committee. Nationally and regionally, she serves on the executive boards of National CAMBRA (Caries Management by Risk Assessment), National CODE (Consortium of Operative Dentistry Educators) and NCDS ( North Carolina Dental Society) DEBI (Diversity, Equity, Belonging and Inclusion) Taskforce Committee. Dr. Kaur’s accolades, include the ECU Health Sciences Author Recognition Award, William E. Laupas Health Sciences Library, Colgate Oral B Scholar for Institute of Teaching and Learning (AAL/ADEA), ADEA Minority Dental Faculty Development and Inclusion (MDFDI) Grant program, NIDCR/AADR Bloc Travel Award, Heraeus Kulzer Research Award, Elsie, and Baxter Sapp Fellowship.
