Biographical Information
Dr. Margaret (Maggie) Wilson currently serves as Vice Dean for the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Wilson joined the faculty of the ECU School of Dental Medicine as a Clinical Professor and Associate Dean for Student Affairs in November 2009. She was appointed Vice Dean for the ECU School of Dental Medicine in 2014, and in that role, she has broad responsibilities working alongside the Dean to ensure the implementation of the school’s strategic objectives. Dr. Wilson continues to chair the School of Dental Medicine’s Admissions Committee, and leads the school’s efforts to recruit and admit a diverse group of dentists who have the aptitudes and skills to be highly competent, ethical dentist-leaders for rural and underserved communities across the state of North Carolina. Dr. Wilson also coordinates the dental students’ ethics and professionalism curriculum.
Prior to joining the faculty at ECU, Dr. Wilson served as a faculty member and administrator at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She served in various capacities, including full-time clinical General Practice Manager, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Associate Dean for Professional Programs. She earned the DDS degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completed a General Practice Residency program at the University of Maryland Hospital. Dr. Wilson also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Maryland at College Park, and an undergraduate degree from Lipscomb University. She was in private dental practice and also worked in college health before entering full-time academia in 1990.
