Crisp receives Pierre Fauchard Academy scholarship
Hannibal A. “Alex” Crisp, DMD candidate 2015, recently received a 2014 Pierre Fauchard Academy Foundation Dental Student Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
The Pierre Fauchard Academy Foundation offers scholarships annually to selected dental schools for presentation to students who have demonstrate high leadership characteristics and above average academic qualifications. Scholarships recipients are selected by members of the faculty.
Crisp currently serves as the National President-Elect of the Student National Dental Association; he will become the National President of the organization in July 2014. He is also the winner of the ECU Research and Creative Achievement Week doctoral level research competition for his project, “An Analysis of Digital Assessment of Crown Preparation Using CADCAM Technology.”
Additionally, Crisp gives his time freely to outreach projects. During the past year, he volunteered over 100 hours as a coach for little league football and tee-ball teams. He strongly believes in being the change he hopes to see in the world.
“Being the recipient of the Pierre Fauchard Academy scholarship is an honor,” said Crisp. “The Academy is a collection of the brightest dental minds, past and present. Being associated with the organization brings me great pride, and also humility. I feel very fortunate to have been selected for such a prestigious award. At the same time, I am humbled by the association’s members, and know that I have much to accomplish before I am truly recognized as one of their peers.”
Currently, Crisp is enjoying hands-on experience treating patients at the ECU School of Dental Medicine Community Service Learning Center in Ahoskie, N.C. He, like other fourth-year students, will complete 3 eight-week rotations at the school’s community service learning centers across North Carolina before graduation in 2015.
Crisp, originally from Burlington, N.C., earned a bachelor’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill. He also attended North Carolina Central University before beginning dental school.
