The School of Dental Medicine offers opportunities for dental students to participate in various research programs. Funding is available to support students depending on the program. The Office of Innovation and Discovery assist students and their mentors to find and participate in research experiences, here at ECU.

Summer Research Scholars Program
The Office of Innovation & Discovery provides the opportunity for incoming D1 students who are interested in gaining education and experience by working with a mentor(s) on an established research project or scholarly work. Students are asked to complete an application with a cover letter expressing their research interest. The student will be matched with a mentor who is working on a research project or scholarly work that closely fits the student’s interest, education, or experience. This program is in collaboration with the Brody School of Medicine’s Summer Scholar Program. Students will attend weekly course sessions along with the BSOM scholars that will instruct them on topics such as how to write and format a research paper or give a poster presentation. The program ends with an in-person poster presentation in collaboration with the Brody School of Medicine Summer Scholars. Visit Office of Research – Student Research to learn more.
Duration/Stipend: Summer 8-10 weeks/$3,000 stipend to assist with expenses
Work-Study Program for Students
Undergraduate students have the opportunity to gain lab experience by assisting the principal investigator with their research.
Duration/Stipend: Length of the project/salary dependent upon funding source.
