The ECU School of Dental Medicine provides internal continuing education opportunities designed specifically for faculty. These sessions support teaching effectiveness, clinical excellence, leadership development, and ongoing professional growth.
Internal CE activities are available exclusively to SoDM faculty and coordinated through the Office of Faculty Affairs.

2026 NC Dental Opioid Update Course (November)
This course explores the scope and implications of the opioid epidemic in the United States, with a particular focus on its connection to dental care. Participants will examine the risks associated with fentanyl, fentanyl-laced psychostimulants, and cannabis use in dental settings. The session also reviews evidence-based alternatives to opioid prescriptions, new long-acting anesthetics, and practical strategies to enhance pain management while minimizing opioid dependency risks.
Substance Use Disorders, Mental Health, and Burnout for the Provider (November)
This course explores the profound effects of stress, anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, and substance abuse on the mental health of dental professionals. Participants will gain insights into how these challenges impact dental teams, practice dynamics, and personal lives. Practical strategies for fostering mental well-being and resilience will be shared, empowering attendees to create healthier, more sustainable work environments.

ECU School of Dental Medicine is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider.
ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry.
