Smiles on Friday – July 31, 2026
Smiles on Friday is our weekly update from around the ECU School of Dental Medicine. Follow the activities of students, faculty, staff and residents each week. If you want to receive the email version, please send a note to smilesonfriday@ecu.edu.

D4s Emerson Alexander, Rachel Nguyen and Xailyn Batista are reunited in Ross Hall. For the first term, Emerson was in Brunswick County, Rachel was in Robeson County and Xailyn was in Lillington. They are excited to reconnect!

D1 Lindsay Strickland demonstrates her competency through a skills assessment as she prepares to assist her peers in the DXTTR Module.

Last weekend, ECU ASDA held their annual Burnisher’s Ball at Harvey Hall on campus. This annual event is not only a great night for our students to put on their best, but also a fundraiser for our Patient Care Funds at Ross Hall. This year, they raised more than $10,000!

This summer, we updated our Pediatric Dentistry operatories at Ross Hall. What once was a shared space is now its own operatory where Pediatric Dentistry Resident Dr. Julia Ophals provides care.

We welcomed Dr. Seth Atkins who provided a CE course on Digital Dentistry to our faculty and alumni.
More CE opportunities are coming!
